NBWMC Bowling Section

As much a part of the Club as all its members, the Bowling section celebrated its centenary in 2014. Needless to say its history is almost as long as that of the Club and stretches over two World Wars and faced down many local difficulties ranging from the impact of epidemics to that of redevelopment and “The Troubles”.

The bowling section is a member of the Northern Ireland Private Greens League. This year (2023) it won its section in the Private greens League! Errol Whitten, President of the Irish Bowls Association in 2014, paid tribute to the Club’s International and local successes including an Irish Senior Cup and seven Junior Cup wins and pointed out that had provided the Presidency of the I.B.A twice and, on no less than five occasions, the Presidency of the N.I.P.G.L.

Factoid: the Green was laid out in 1913 after Mr. D. Leslie of Glasgow’s contract for £381.19s.9d. was accepted. this would be £44,365.48 in today’s values!

Eddie Totten, Tom McGurk (Junior), Trwor Rainey and Paul Kirk are players to contact. The roll of honour of the Bowling Section dates back to July 1914. It is in the Club’Great Hall.

We have weathered the storm of the Pandemic and are forging ahead.
